2019 honda civic red on road

The Honda Sensing™ suite includes a driver-assist technology called the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) that can keep you safer while navigating Vista roads. This advanced technology detects a possible front collision and sends warnings to the driver to apply the brakes to help reduce the likelihood of an impact. With CMBS™, and the rest of the Honda Sensing® features, you can worry less when cruising through Carlsbad traffic.

How Does It Work?

A radar transmitter mounted in the grille trim is used to determine distance and closing speed of obstacles ahead of you. No matter if the obstacle is another a pedestrian or another vehicle, the radar and high-resolution camera will collect the information it needs to help you avoid a potential accident. Then, in the event a potential collision is detected, visual and audio warnings are given to notify the driver to apply the brakes.

What Are the Stages When Danger is Detected?

CMBS™ has three stages that it can deploy when a possible collision is detected. These stages include:

  • Stage 1: Audio and visual warnings are given to alert the driver of an obstacle coming up ahead.
  • Stage 2: With these warnings, the system applies the brakes lightly to slow down the vehicle and help avoid a collision.
  • Stage 3: Along with these warnings, the brakes are applied strongly in order to dramatically reduce your speed.

Hopefully, your attention isn’t so divided as to need the third stage, but it’s there for added peace of mind and extra safety when something else distracts you at the wrong time.
